Tokyo has so many train lines that many people might feel unsure which line or station is the most convenient. Here, we would like to introduce stations that have good access and lower rental costs. For our first feature, we focus on Nihonbashi Station. The following three lines serve Nihonbashi Station:
Therefore, if you want to go directly without transfers, you can use stations along these three lines to access Nihonbashi Station. Furthermore, if you allow for “one transfer” within 20 minutes, there are plenty of nearby major lines and transfer stations to consider. Below, we list recommended stations and approximate travel times to Nihonbashi Station with (1) no transfers, and then (2) one transfer — all roughly within a 20-minute window.
(Please note that the times given are approximations under normal conditions. They may vary depending on rush hours, timetables, and do not include walking time in transfer corridors. Use this only as a rough guide.)

1. Within 20 minutes to Nihonbashi Station with no transfers (direct)
1-1. Tokyo Metro Ginza Line
Nihonbashi Station (G11) is served by the
Ginza Line, which runs from Shibuya Station to Asakusa Station. Nearly all stations on the line are within about 20 minutes, but here we list some of the major popular stations and approximate times. However, we exclude any stations on the inner part of the Yamanote Line corridor, where rents are typically higher.
Station Name |
Station No. |
Approx. Time to Nihonbashi |
Notes |
Asakusa |
G19 |
About 14 min |
A key downtown sightseeing area in Taito Ward, outside the Yamanote loop |
Tawaramachi |
G18 |
About 12 min |
Near Asakusa, known for local shopping streets |
Inaricho |
G17 |
About 10 min |
Near Ueno Station but still slightly outside the Yamanote core |
- The Asakusa area (in Taito Ward) lies east of the Yamanote Line’s outer loop, making it a typical example of being “not inside the Yamanote loop.”
- Ueno (G16) is also served by JR Yamanote Line, so we classify it as “within the Yamanote area” and exclude it here.
- All three of the stations above let you reach Nihonbashi Station directly, within 20 minutes, with no transfers.

Summary
When looking for stations outside the Yamanote loop (where rents are more budget-friendly) with direct access (no transfers), there are relatively fewer options. However, if you permit one transfer, your range of choices expands significantly. On Tokyo’s eastern side, even Mizue Station just barely fits within the 20-minute range, so you can find share houses with very affordable rents.
