Which stations have good access to Ginza Sta as a workplace while offering low rent? List the stations that can be reached within 20 minutes.

There are likely many people who feel that Tokyo has too many railway lines to easily figure out which line and which station are convenient. Here, we would like to introduce stations that offer good access and also lower rents, arranged station by station.

Ginza Station is a huge terminal where Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Marunouchi Line, and Hibiya Line intersect. Although it has the image of being right in the middle of the city center, in fact there are many stations that can be reached within 20 minutes with fewer transfers even from outside the Yamanote Line.

In this article, we will list, without omissions and organized by line, (1) stations within 20 minutes to Ginza Station with no transfers (direct), and (2) stations within 20 minutes to Ginza Station with one transfer, while excluding Yamanote Line stations and stations inside the Yamanote Line. Please consider the required times as rough estimates, as they vary depending on the timetable and time of day.

・Tokyo Metro Ginza Line
・Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line
・Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line

1. Within 20 minutes to Ginza Station with no transfers (direct)

1-1. Tokyo Metro Ginza Line

Among the section heading toward Asakusa (east side) from Ginza Station, this lists stations that are located outside the Yamanote Line and can be reached within 20 minutes (the west side such as Toranomon and Shimbashi is excluded because it is inside the Yamanote Line).

Station nameApprox. time to Ginza StationNotes
KyobashiApprox. 1–2 minLocated on the east (outside) side of the Yamanote Line
NihombashiApprox. 2–3 minSame as above. Underground connection to Mitsukoshimae
MitsukoshimaeApprox. 4–5 minDirect via Ginza Line / Transfer hub for Hanzomon Line
InarichoApprox. 12–14 minEast (outside) of Ueno. Single Ginza Line ride
TawaramachiApprox. 15–17 minSingle Ginza Line ride
AsakusaApprox. 17–19 minSingle Ginza Line ride (near the terminus side). Different ticket gates from Asakusa on the Asakusa Line

Common fee:15,000 yen
Number of rooms:9 rooms
Access:JR Yamanote Line “Ueno” Station 3 min on foot
Ginza Line “Inaricho” Station 6 min on foot

Reviews of Inaricho Inaricho allows you to reach Nihombashi and Ginza on a single Ginza Line ride, and Ueno and Asakusa are within walking distance. By bicycle, Kuramae and Akihabara are about 10–15 minutes, making commuting and weekend outings easy. It retains a calm downtown atmosphere, and there are many “My Basket” mini-supermarkets, drugstores, and 24-hour convenience stores, so daily shopping is no problem. On the other hand, the area in front of the station is small, and dining options are somewhat limited. At night, there are fewer people around, and there are many alleys and narrow streets, so you need to be careful when returning home. Large commercial facilities are few, so shopping and entertainment are basically done in Ueno or Asakusa, which is a drawback.

1-2. Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line

This covers the section extending from Ginza Station toward Higashi-Ginza, Tsukiji, Hatchobori, and Kayabacho, and part of the section toward Ueno (outside the Yamanote Line). Kitasenju is excluded because it takes over 20 minutes.

Station nameApprox. time to Ginza StationNotes
Higashi-GinzaApprox. 1–2 minAdjacent to Ginza. Mutual connection with Asakusa Line
TsukijiApprox. 3–4 minFormer market area / many dining options

Rent:61,000 – 80,000 yen
Common fee:18,000 yen
Number of rooms:14 rooms
Access:Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line “Hatchobori” Station 8 min on foot

Reviews of Hatchobori In Hatchobori, the Hibiya Line offers a direct ride to Ginza and Roppongi, and the Keiyo Line goes straight to Shin-Kiba and Maihama. Tokyo Station, Nihombashi, and Yaesu are within walking or cycling distance, making both commuting and shopping easy. The Sumida River Terrace is nearby, providing a good environment for morning walks and runs. There are Maruetsu Petit, Seijo Ishii, drugstores, and 24-hour convenience stores in the area, so daily shopping is no problem. On the other hand, because it is an office district, nights and weekends are quiet, and some restaurants close early. The Keiyo Line platform is deep underground, and the transfer at Tokyo Station involves a long walk. Being near the bayside, operations can be disrupted by wind and rain, and rents tend to be slightly higher than on the downtown side, which is a drawback.

1-3. Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line

Among the Marunouchi Line, only Nishi-Shinjuku falls within 20 minutes while being outside the Yamanote Line (Nakano-sakaue is mostly around 21 minutes and often exceeds 20 minutes, so it is excluded).

Station nameApprox. time to Ginza StationNotes
Nishi-ShinjukuApprox. 18–19 minDirect. West of Shinjuku = outside the Yamanote Line

Access : Toei Oedo Line “Nishi-Shinjuku-gochome” Station 3 min on foot
Marunouchi Line “Nishi-Shinjuku” Station 11 min on foot

Reviews of Nishi-Shinjuku Nishi-Shinjuku has a direct connection on the Marunouchi Line to Shinjuku and Tokyo, and Tochomae and Shinjuku-nishiguchi are within walking distance. Even in the rain, you can walk to Shinjuku Station through underground passages, making commuting and shopping easy. Shinjuku Chuo Park is nearby, so on days off you can refresh yourself in greenery. There are many large hospitals, drugstores, and 24-hour convenience stores, giving a sense of security in daily life. On the other hand, the area is centered on offices, so nights and weekends are quiet and restaurants tend to close early. Supermarket options are somewhat limited, and eating out and prices tend to be high. Due to wind between high-rises in winter, the perceived temperature can drop, and sometimes construction or loading sounds can be noticeable. For a quieter life, residences one street off the main roads are recommended.

Next, we will look at patterns that get to Ginza Station within 20 minutes with one transfer.

2. Within 20 minutes to Ginza Station with one transfer

All of the following exclude Yamanote Line stations and stations inside the Yamanote Line, and list comprehensively by line the stations that are within 20 minutes with one transfer (including underground or walking connections).

・Tokyo Metro Tozai Line → Transfer at Kayabacho → Hibiya Line → Ginza
・JR Keiyo Line → Transfer at Hatchobori → Hibiya Line → Ginza
・Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line → Ginza-itchome (walking connection) / Yurakucho (walking connection) → Ginza

Access:Tozai Line “Toyocho” Station 5 min on foot

Reviews of Toyocho Toyocho is a town where the closeness of the Tozai Line’s direct service to Nihombashi and Otemachi is delightful. Koto City Office is in front of the station, which is convenient for completing various procedures quickly. Seiyu, My Basket, and drugstores are scattered around, and daily necessities can be handled on foot. Yokojikken River Shinsui Park and Kiba Park are within walking distance, offering a good environment for walking and running. By bicycle, Monzen-nakacho, Kiyosumi-shirakawa, and Toyosu are within 15–20 minutes. On the other hand, the Tozai Line is quite crowded in the morning, so adjusting your time or aiming for a train that starts from the station is the trick. Along Eitai-dori Avenue, there is heavy car traffic and noise can be a concern. Dining options are mainly chains, and for more unique places it is fun to go as far as Kiba or Monzen-nakacho.

2-2. JR Keiyo Line → Transfer at Hatchobori → Hibiya Line → Ginza

2-3. Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line → Ginza-itchome (walking connection) / Yurakucho (walking connection) → Ginza

From Ginza-itchome (Y19) and Yurakucho (Y18) to Ginza Station, you can connect via underground passages (a few minutes on foot). Since it is one train ride plus a walking connection, it is treated as “one transfer.”

Reviews of Toyosu Toyosu has easy access to both the city center and the bayside via the Yurakucho Line and Yurikamome, and daily life tends to be completed at “Urban Dock LaLaport Toyosu.” For shopping there are UNIQLO, MUJI, and Seijo Ishii; for movies, “United Cinemas Toyosu”; for kids, “KidZania Tokyo.” The waterfront “Toyosu Gururi Park” and wide sidewalks make walks and runs pleasant. On the other hand, the Yurakucho Line is prone to crowding on weekday mornings, and on days with strong sea winds the perceived temperature tends to drop. LaLaport can be crowded on holidays, and dining may come with waiting times. The area is large, so depending on where you live you may feel the distance to the station or supermarkets. Rents are also slightly higher than on the adjacent downtown side, which is a drawback.

Access:Tokyo Metro Ginza Line “Asakusa” Station 4 min on foot

Reviews of Asakusa Asakusa offers easy travel using the Ginza Line, Asakusa Line, Tobu Skytree Line, and Tsukuba Express. For shopping, “Matsuya Asakusa,” “ASAKUSA ROX (Seiyu, UNIQLO, DAISO),” and “Don Quijote Asakusa” cover most needs. For walks, Senso-ji Temple, Nakamise Street, and the Sumida River Terrace are close, and long-established restaurants like “Asakusa Imahan Honten” and “Yoshikami” are also nearby. On the other hand, as it is a tourist area, crowds and noise are intense on weekends and during the Sanja Matsuri or fireworks festival. Alleys are narrow, so be careful with bicycles. Many properties are older, so insulation and plumbing should be checked. The Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station is separate from the other lines, and the transfer route is long, which is a drawback.

Reviews of Daikanyama Ebisu and Nakameguro are also within walking distance, expanding your range of activity even if you live alone. For daily shopping, “Peacock Store Daikanyama” and Seijo Ishii Atre Ebisu are convenient, and for specialty ingredients you can use the shops inside “DAIKANYAMA T-SITE.” For reading or work there are “TSUTAYA BOOKS” and “IVY PLACE,” and for a casual drink by yourself “SPRING VALLEY BREWERY TOKYO” is easy to use. The station is small and served only by the Toyoko Line, so on rainy days you often go to Shibuya or Nakameguro to transfer. There are many slopes and narrow streets, making bicycles a bit tough; eating out and daily goods are at city-center prices; and while residential areas are quiet, many shops tend to close early.

Kinshicho is one stop away and easy to get to by bicycle as well. Summary

The Ginza Line (east side) and the Hibiya Line (east side to near Ueno) cover the widest range for “direct” routes, and stations such as Kyobashi, Nihombashi, Mitsukoshimae, Higashi-Ginza, Tsukiji, Hatchobori, Kayabacho, and Ningyocho are all outside the Yamanote Line and can be reached within 20 minutes.
For “one transfer,” strong candidates include the Tozai Line (transfer at Kayabacho), JR Keiyo Line (transfer at Hatchobori), Yurakucho Line (walking connection from Ginza-itchome / Yurakucho), Hanzomon Line (transfer at Mitsukoshimae), Asakusa Line (walking connection at Higashi-Ginza), Tokyu Toyoko Line (transfer at Naka-meguro), and TX (transfer at Akihabara).
